Carefree enjoyment together: young carers to the Winter Efteling

At Welzijn Lelystad , we think it is important that young carers can also just be children or young people. That is why we organised a special day: together with 85 young informal carers, we went to the Winter Efteling. Two buses full of children and young people who often bear a lot of worries at home were able to immerse themselves in fairy tales and adventure. A day for laughing, relaxing and making new friends.

Why such a day is so important

Young carers grow up in a family where someone needs long-term care. They often help out, worry and have less time for themselves. An outing like this gives them breathing space: a break from responsibilities, but having fun and meeting peers who understand what it's like.

How it became possible

Thanks to a generous donation of €6,500 from the Protestant and Reformed churches, these young people were able to go along. 13 volunteers and committed interns went along to make everything run smoothly and enjoyable. Together, they ensured a safe, relaxing day.

A day full of highlights

From roller coasters to the Fairytale Forest, from the Baron to Droomvlucht, there was plenty to enjoy. Along the way, there were tasty refreshments and a nice lunch. Alderman Annemieke Messelink waved the buses off in the morning and wished everyone a fantastic day.

'For these young people, it is so much more than a day out. It is a moment of freedom, fun and recognition. You see them blossom as soon as they notice: I am not alone," says Liesbeth Krouwel, consultant young carers.

Thanks to everyone who made this possible

Our thanks go to the Reformed and Reformed churches, Association Groengrijs for the buses, Praktijk Valida for the vests and, of course, all the volunteers and interns who got involved. Together, we gave these young people an unforgettable day.
