Covenant Informal Care

A large number of civil society organisations are already working together to provide the best possible support to informal carers and volunteers in Lelystad municipality. The successful cooperation led to the Informal Care Covenant. This was officially signed on Thursday 1 June in the Hanzeborg by Lelystad municipality, Welzijn Lelystad and 15 welfare and care organisations.

Alderman Rinze Broekema: 'The Informal Care Covenant is an invitation to all Lelystad residents to join hands and build a caring and resilient community together.'

Thanks to the efforts of informal carers and care volunteers, people can continue to live independently at home for longer. Informal care refers to care that is not provided from a profession and therefore does not involve a salary. It involves voluntary care, informal care and the social network of a person requiring care.

Cement of society

The added value of volunteers and informal carers is increasing in society due, among other things, to an ageing population and labour market shortages. Their efforts are often referred to as the 'cement in society'. Through the efforts of informal carers and care volunteers, people can continue to live independently at home in their familiar surroundings for longer.

´We are committed to strengthening informal care with all covenant partners. We support informal carers so they can focus on the neighbour they care for,' says Marieke Voogt, director-director of Welzijn Lelystad. 'But we also focus on informal care outside their own circle. By deploying a care volunteer, we want to connect people in Lelystad; we bring people who need a helping hand into contact with people who are happy to lend a helping hand.'
