Making fruit water together brings parents and children closer together
Making fruit water together, a health quiz and tips on oral care: healthy drinking took centre stage at a parents’ meeting organised by Vluchtelingenwerk Welzijn Lelystad . The meeting took place on Thursday 11 June, as part of the ‘Lelystad Drinks Water’ campaign by JOGG Lelystad.
Nutrition, health and oral care
The event was for clients with young children who are not yet at school. In an accessible and practical way, parents were given information on nutrition, health and oral care.
Dental prevention worker Helma Ario Soeriowardojo – with the help of an interpreter – explained how food and drink affect teeth. Participants also got stuck into an interactive health quiz.
A lovely moment
‘Making fruit-infused water together was a lovely moment,’ says Bojoura Hoekstra, a staff member at the Dutch Council for Refugees. ‘Parents and children discovered just how easy and tasty drinking water can be. It immediately makes it something you can do at home too.’
All participants went home with a water bottle filled with their own fruit-infused water. The children received special attention: they were allowed to choose a picture book and were given a water-themed memory game, created by volunteers from the VoorleesExpress Lelystad.
The event was well received. Parents said they had gained new ideas for making healthier choices at home.
