Play and socialise at the autumn festival on Schateiland

Decorating a pumpkin, playing games such as tin can alley and football, and grabbing a hot dog roll and hot chocolate with whipped cream in between. The children had a brilliant time at the autumn festival on Schateiland.

‘Miss, we’re really enjoying this party.’ That’s what one of the children said to our youth coach, Morgan Bartels. Together with her colleagues from the children’s outreach team, community outreach, management, youth work, (B)oost Buddy and Challenge Up, she organised this afternoon’s event for the neighbourhood.

‘We saw children having a great time playing, whilst people from the neighbourhood got to know one another.’

Play and socialise

Children were able to play throughout the playground. The after-school club run by GO! Kinderopvang and a class from De Driesprong primary school also dropped by. Can throwing, noughts and crosses, squirrel tag, colouring, face painting and an autumn-themed photo booth with hats, created by young people from Challenge Up: there was plenty to choose from.

Sportbedrijf Lelystad challenged children to play football. Volunteers from the neighbourhood provided hot chocolate with whipped cream, soup and sandwiches, and handed them out. A queue soon formed outside the little shop in the playground.

Chocolate milk and hot dogs

Morgan: ‘We estimate there were over 200 visitors. The hot chocolate and hot dog rolls were flying off the counter.’

Children’s community worker Debby Bulder: ‘It was a party for and with the neighbourhood.’
